Date set for moving all remaining old channels to new version

Hey folks - the remaining items on our to-do list for new channels have been taken care of (with a few remaining bugs expected to be fixed in the next two weeks), so we're planning on switching all user channels still using the older version on September 30 and all partners on October 14. Note that not all channels will switch over instantly; it'll take a week or two after the migration starts to complete converting all remaining channels.

We've addressed many of the items from the to-do list, including:
  • Fixing some browser-specific layout bugs (especially IE6)
  • Allowing you to default your channel to "grid" view
  • Allowing you to re-order your uploads and playlists
  • Adding transparency
  • Implementing fixes for a lot of other bugs you helped find, such as grid view not always working correctly
We've also:
  • Added the ability to right-click and open videos in a new tab or window
  • Added a full screen capability
  • Allowed transparency settings to go to 100%
We're excited to finally roll this out, and it's been very helpful to have your input from the past few months to help us shape and grow the product. And things won't stop here -- we'll continue adding new features and making changes over time based on your feedback. Please keep it coming and share links to some of your favorite channel designs in the comments below. We'd like to highlight them in an upcoming post on the main YouTube blog.

  2. Great work, Brian and the team. Though many will protest, I think the new design turned out great!

  3. Yay! I'll be so nice to have all those channels switched the new design! I always sigh whenever I have to go through the old design on someone else's channel.

Keep up the good work guys! It's so nice to see active updates on this great website!

  4. Brian, can you just leave ONE channel in the old version? ;) My channel: youtube.com/yearofthe

PLLEASE! There's no need for upgrade's on the account, I just like 1.0!! O_o Please, just this one tiny winy account keep it. D: I already have a halloween theme on my page and beta is going to ruin it. :(

    Peace!

    ReplyDelete
  5. Please listen to your users and don't compel this "upgrade" - many users continue to see it as inferior to the existing channels and why not leave those who want to retain the old design as is?

    ReplyDelete
  6. What about fixed backgrounds? I don't wanna sound like I'm badgering you, but I haven't heard about it even being added and I just don't want it to be overlooked. My channel has stars on it's background and it is meant to be fixed so everything flies by with the background staying put.

  7. whats hilarious to me is how there really isnt anything that the new channels have that the old dont. and there still is a bunch of features the old have but the new lack.

keep your "upgrade" to yourself. i've only rarely seen a corporation so openly insensitive to the desires of those that use its services.

  8. You need to add the time on the video icons in the channel. You need to add the date in the video info on the channel.

I can't believe you guys didn't make a list of all the features on the old channel and make sure they were all in the new channel. Especially all the non layout features like the stuff I mention.

  9. brian, i have to ask you this. in the channels that you are pointing out as examples, such as sxephil and iceflowstudios, there is a box (module?) below the main navigator display on the right side above the comments. i've specifically seen this in the muzik4machines channel where the owner of that channel can put in a lot of stuff for whatever s/he wanted in that box. will all users get that? or only partners or special people?

i'll be blunt and say that i want that box if you remember what i was asking about before where i can put text and links. it looked to me that it's a free-form box or module for lack of a better term since i don't know what you call all the areas on the new channel.

anyways, it seemed like when i was trying out the new channel that i COULDN'T get that box but instead i can only put the recent activity box in that spot there. so what is it, my guess is that only partners and special people get that box? and everyone else has to be satisfied with what you can put in the profile box in the narrower left column on the other side.

i'm glad that the bugs are getting fixed, but i'm really disappointed about that (custom?) box that i'm guessing i may not get because i only have a puny little channel compared to the other bigger channels that i'm guessing you have to make revenue from. *disappointed* *sigh*

  10. I have noticed that the more info link overlaps the video description on the new channels, could you fix this bug before you roll out the new channels please?

    ReplyDelete
  11. Nice job but PLEASE add AutoURLs.

    ReplyDelete
  12. "Allowing you to re-order your uploads and playlists"

This is not really true - you can "feature" a dozen videos and playlists by placing them ahead of the others, but you cannot reorder your uploads and playlists, a rather pressing concert for some of us more active uploaders.

Also, it used to be that playlists would alphabetize, allowing users to number them to put them in some order, but this has been disabled as well. It cannot be unfeasible to put this feature back.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Beta channels are great, especially now with all those updates and fixes. But I still have a question: Could you please show the upload date of the video on the channel? Yeah, it's not THAT important, but I needed it a few times and I had to go to the "Original" video page. :P

    ReplyDelete
  14. @Brian
I've used the reorder uploads feature to choose the top 3 videos. I really like this because I have interactive videos, and some of the choices were visible, almost like they were being given away.

Check them out, and please consider putting them in the main blog post, as you mentioned.

Thanks again for everything you have been doing, and I look forward to seeing what else will be released.

  15. I like my old YouTube channel! I liked the old Wikia, (thankfully they allow you to use the old version still). My Dad liked the old eBay. Everything is going Beta, and I'm not so sure I like that.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Please, please, could we also, besides "player" and "grid" views, have a "list" view with more info visible? Like, the *entire* title with the beginning of the description?

    ReplyDelete
  17. So you are actually going to DESTROY all our old channels and 'designs'...Where is all the information gonna go? And where do I see the "play all" button for playlists?
You are SERIOUS in DESTROYING all happy channels? HELL WHY?!?!

  20. These are all good "updates". It is very hard to believe that until some people started to complain about things like not being able to open videos in their actual page in order to read the comments, see the full descriptions, see the related videos, and many other things, you wanted us to be imprisioned in our own pages (which are very unattractive with the new design, but that's just a personal opinion). Now I hope that I won't lose my playlists, or the information I have in their descriptions. At this moment, when I switch to the new design I cannot see the descriptions of the playlists in my channel, or what's even worse, I can't see playlists at all because I have no public videos/favorites/playlists and thus I have not video navigator. All I can do is to go to the drop down menu that appears when you click your username on top of the page and then I have to click "playlists" if I want to see them. The way playlists worked in the old design was perfect, now they are almost useless for me.

  21. Despite the fact that I really don't care what YouTube does anymore, I still don't think the beta channels are ready to be implemented. That's all I'm gonna say.

    ReplyDelete
  22. im still waiting for the links to work in channel descriptions, and u guys should let us order all our playlists/uploads. a few suggestions: online indicator, having a top friends option, and i guess thats all.

    ReplyDelete
  23. when we we get hotlinking URLs in the channel description?!? If you're not going to do it, then just tell us. I know how easy it is, I also know that you're just putting a space in every link, so just come out with it and tell us why you don't want to do it.
    also, my channel is youtube.com/sten4sw

    ReplyDelete
  24. Thanks for the response on the other blog post about the favorites, and a new blog post as well. Good luck with meeting the release date.

    ReplyDelete
  25. SO WE WILL BE ABLE TO SWICH TO THE OLD CHANNEL DESING BY SEPTEMBER30 THATS GOO BECAUSE I KEEP TRYING TO SWITCH BACK BUT IT WOULDNT WORK

    ReplyDelete
  26. Steven, good luck getting a straight answer from brian on the issue. You're right, it's very easy to fix. The partner channels have had active URLs since beta started. I asked about this time and time again 2 months ago and he's done nothing but dance around it. I think it's obvious by now the URLs are going to be partner-only. If it were going to be on the regular channels there's no good reason that it shouldn't have been implemented already. Don't hold your breath waiting for another BS answer from brian.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Excellent, the channels are great now, but i'm still waiting for V-Log players, i insist; that was one the old channels' best choices, consider it!

Ah! and my channel is www.youtube.com/Alan170287

    ReplyDelete
  28. Ok I'll be the one to say it. I hate the beta channels. Some of you like them, many (like me) do not. you say you listen to your feedback well listen to this we want a choice. So many of us can choose if we want to switch or not. I'm not trying to be mean but many of these changes are annoying and confusing to many people. I like it slow and simple.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I find it annoying to have to constantly switch to player view from grid view when I visit a channel with the beta design.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I would like to make a statement regarding these channels.

While I find it a lot easier to edit my channel using the new design, browsing someone's videos whose channel has the new design is a major inconvenience. I think it is perfectly clear in the YouTube Help Forum that a large number of people are against the mandatory switch. I, personally, strongly dislike the new design as a channel visitor. Seeing how such a large number of people want the design to be optional instead of mandatory, you might want to consider reversing your decision regarding the mandatory switch (since it has caused outrage over the past few months).

    ReplyDelete
  31. Brian:
    do not listen to anyone!

just go and change the channels!
    beta rules!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Any word on a design alteration for playlists yet, to distinguish them from just regular videos?

Also, as a few have said, it IS mighty inconvenient to browse people's channels now. There just doesn't seem to be enogh *room.* Its almost like the videos themselves are an afterthought.

Don't get me wrong, I actually really like the design. It would sure be nice to see those things get addressed though.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Notice YouTube links to this offsite blog now, trying to put a barrier to stop youtubers from commenting/participating.

Why do I say this? Because last time they wrote about the beta channels they let people comment with their youtube account. There were thousands of responses nearly all of them against the new design.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Please make the URLs work in the channel description and about me sections. Also, when editing those fields in Firefox 3.5.3, it's buggy.

    ReplyDelete
  35. yeah! finally youtube will look consistent again, not some ugly old channels in a sea of nice new ones

to all the naysayers, go spam on some other sites and leave this place for the bug fixing and feature suggestion

there is NOTHING in the BETA that is missing from the old ones, except the spamfest of the vlog, buletins and autolink URL(even that has been added back even if it opens the door to spam and phishing, just cause so many cried for it)

the player is better, grid view is more practical than the pages and pages of videos on the old one, the info is where it belongs, BELOW the video, if you want to showcase your name and asci art, get a myspace, youtube is a VIDEO site, i want to showcase my VIDEOS, not where i'm from or random, no use shit like that

as for bugs, besides the resume(that is not due to beta but to the neew player) they almost been all fixed and my channel is working mighty fine, and looks better everytime i tweak the design

  39. @Muzik4Machines: Someone's a little conceived, isn't he? We don't ALL have to like the beta channels. Showing our opinion isn't spamming the blog, we're just saying we're not content with the idea. I'm sick of you bashing all those who have an opinion. if you think our voices won't be heard and we're wasting our time, fine. Just keep it to yourself.

    ReplyDelete
  40. .:Muzik 4 Machines:. Said:

to all the naysayers, go spam on some other sites and leave this place for the bug fixing and feature suggestion..............

    Hahahaha
M4M, ever since you got a feature link for the beta you act like your the boss here!.

You waste as much space here as anyone else !.

Since you like beta, everyone else must too, coz u say so !.

You only think of yourself and what you want !.

Don't let your ego blind you.
Luckily, not everybody thinks like you.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Also, Muzik 4 Machines, if we want to say we hate the beta channels we can very well say it. And you are NO ONE to be telling us to leave as if we were cyber-bullying. We're simply saying our honest and humble opinions. You CAN NOT tell us what to say or where to say it. If we post the same comments over and over again (all of them the same), then that's a different story. But, we're not and we're giving our "voices". If you think that you can boss us around, pick on us, and tell us what to do like we're your slaves, you and your buddy better change your tones towards us. 'Cause we're just as important to the YouTube community as you are. So, I suggest that you be a little kinder to those who oppose the change, or simply ignore them. It's as simple as that. You tell other people to ignore them, yet YOU'RE the one who keeps on replying to our comments and telling us to leave as if this was YOUR domain. I hope you think about that.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Also, i agree COMPLETELY with Format. You DO act like you're the boss here and make everyone who hates beta leave because YOU say so. Everyone HAS to agree with your opinion or they have to leave?! God, I haven't seen that much ego in a person in a while. We're not your slaves, you know that? If this hurts your feelings (which it probably doesn't, but, still), think about how the beta-haters felt when you cussed at them and told them to leave.

I strongly recommend changing your attitude towards other people, because people WILL stop watching your videos (trust me, I know). People don't respect people with big egos like you. I hope you understand that.

    ReplyDelete
  43. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Oh look, ANOTHER ego. Gosh, can't you let people express their opinions ONCE? M4M's cussed at pretty much EVERY beta-hater who's commented on this blog, he keeps bragging about his stupid channel, AND, he's telling everyone who hates the beta channel to scram. Does that sound fair to you? Are you gonna treat M4M like he's the boss around here? Well, he's not! No one's the boss here except maybe Brian!

Anyway, M4M, you're not the boss here. You never were. And yet you treated people like you were, time after time, the boss. I repeat: We're not your slaves.

Anyway, no one's gonna watch and rate videos from a big ego. You can't respect a SINGLE opinion that is different from yours.

So you're just saying you're the boss here and think you have the right to curse at everyone and tell them to leave? We'll see about that.

Well, I guess there's nothing more I can do. Continue telling other beta-haters to leave and all like you're the boss, I don't really care anymore. Continue counting all the comments with a different opinion as spam, I really don't give a crap.

P.S. This is not about how crappy the beta channels are, this is about how crappy your attitude is.

P.P.S. You REALLY don't care about your views?

    ReplyDelete
  48. Can you please give us an option of whether we want the new channel design or if we'd like to keept the old one? Because I find the new one very confusing! I like the old one. It's simple!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Has it been established how to delete themes for the channel because I have a few that have been saved by accident when I was just messing around and I haven't found a way to delete them.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I can see a good ammount of the youtubers are warming up to the idea, but I, and another good ammount of youtubers don't like the new BETA channels. A "BETA" design is not a complete product, and the fact that you are forcing something like that is just stupid, mostly due to the bad feedback. You are so persistent is releasing this thing to us. Why? Does that seem like such a big deal that everyone has to do this? A BETA would be like having us all watch a movie, and it ending halfway because it's not finished. Dosen't make much sence. So, why is it so hard to let us use the normal, 1.0 design? With all the negative feedback, don't you think you should at least address WHY your making us force from a perfectly good design to an incomplete one? And NOT beat around the bush like you like to do when answering this question? Have you noticed your video describing this is ONLY rated 1.5 stars? Why can't you let the youtubers that LIKE the old design keep it that way. OR, if your so persistant, have us switch for ONE week, and then, if we still don't like it, give us the option to switch back. That way we would be allowed to use our favorite design, with giving both a fair shot. Can you PLEASE adresse the ENTIRE thing? Most websites won't even force you to switch, but sence your so persisitant...

    ReplyDelete
  56. Well most likely they are going to make the switch when the bugs are out on the 30th, which is why its in BETA and not being forced upon now. So when the 30th comes, it wont be in BETA.

The reason why they are doing this is because the old channels take up bandwidth, plus giving us the ability to upload videos for FREE with no limit. So with this switch, they can probably save money and do new things with youtube thats gonna make ppl upset lol.

And has anyone noticed the player size on full screen HQ? like with HD, but on HQ the hight of the player is halved.

    ReplyDelete
  57. This sucks! I don't want the ugly new design! And didn't you guys realize, that no one ever clicks on favorited videos in the new design? Didn't you realize that 22 of the top 25 most subscribed partners switched back to the old layout, including smosh and lisanova, because the new design sucks and decreases their and other people's video views? Didn't you realize, that thousands of users have already protested against the forced switch?
Or have you decided to ignore every citicism that comes from this community, because you probably think, WE and our opinion suck? That's not the way to treat the people that made YOU big! I don't mind if some people prefer the new layout, but I want to keep the old one!

    ReplyDelete
  58. i don't want this ugly design with it's ajax-features... some things might be nice, but, hey, do i need stupid transparency?
do i require a not working overview of all vids in a sidebar (which just looks ugly fat)

And why do you want to force the user to change his channel at all?
to me it doesnt make sense

    ReplyDelete
  59. @Brian
I am so glad your almost completed! However I would like the date of the upload to be in the info on the channel please? Great job so far!

    ReplyDelete
  60. I spent so much time perfecting the look of my channel, and now I have to start all over again. I can't believe how oblivious to the people's opinion is. Oh well, Youtube's shooting itself in the foot with this move.

    ReplyDelete
  61. FFFFFFFFFFFF

    FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF

I had this false hope that you guys decided against the change. I hope you know what you're saying when you say the bugs will be fixed.

I would REALLY, REALLY prefer it if you left the channels the way they are. I don't want to click another link to go to a video page, I want to just go and see all the video info, related videos, comments, etc. in front of me. And when I go to a channel, I want to see the user's info beside the featured video so I can learn a little about the awesome person I'm watching WHILE I'm watching.

At the very least, make it an option to stay on the channel when we click a video. A little box you can uncheck if you want. And maybe let users choose whether they want to view a unique layout a channel has or a plain layout so they can just use whatever layout they like for every channel.

    Also, PAGES.

    PAGES.

PAGES PAGES PAGES. What is WRONG with pages? Call me crazy, but I think it's convenient to have videos in groups of 20. I love being able to change a URL and skip through pages. Scroll bars are okay on smaller channels, but they provide less visibility and are harder to use on channels with 2,500+ videos.

I hope someone actually reads these comments... and pays attention to the 2.0 Beta Channel video comments/rating...

    ReplyDelete
  62. Awesome. Hopefully this time you guys will stick with this date.

Just two things you need to still add for me to be completely satisfied with the new channels: working urls in the description bar, and an online/offline indicator. Thanks for all the hard work.

  64. Maybe I don't understand the goals here but I think it's a big mistake to hide the interaction of a channel's video. For most video makers, the comments and video responses are the reason they make videos. The new design hinders and hides this great aspect of YouTube for very little gain if any in my view for most non-subscribers. These changes are going to be discourage my usage of this site.

    ReplyDelete
  65. what about the Vlog? first no more bulletins, then no more playlists, and now no more VLOG!!!!! oh and no more friends acctivity only ''partners acctivity''(who gives a damn, i dont know)! youtube 2005-30 september 2009

    ReplyDelete
  70. beta channels are awesome nuff said! cant wait guys! glad to see the partners are gonna be forced also

    ReplyDelete
  71. When you roll them out, you should have a thing that says "We've converted your channel to our new channels. However, we decided that not everyone likes them and likes older formats." and a "Yes! Keep my channel as is" and a "No, switch back" function. That way, everyone can have their voice.

    ReplyDelete
  73. alanDistro: go here http://www.youtube.com/my_profile_performer they removed the link accidentally i guess

    ReplyDelete
  74. Brian, I'm still showing duplicates of several (if not all) of my uploads on my sidebar, and noticing them on other channels uploads and favorites, as well.

    ReplyDelete
  75. The reason why all the anti BETA channel people are posting here is because YouTube's corporate nazis don't seem to be listening anywhere else. It is a statistical fact that WAY more people would rather have the change be optional than mandatory.

Totally ridiculous. Don't fix something if it's not broken.

    ReplyDelete
  76. has the impression september 30 is way to early to switch, and DESTROY, all old channels to the still crippled and unsatifying 'Beta' version; I hear sóóó many bugs and problems and questions, regrets and sensible complaints that in my vision it would be wise to postpone the switch for another year (take your time!!) and combine the best of two worlds: the old channels and the 'Beta'-version. Why be in such a hurry? Who can seriously take notice of my humble request and advice? sincerly yours, a U-tube and music-lover!!

    ReplyDelete
  77. Another Year?! Are you fucking serious Carolina?

And what difference would that make anyway? Even if they delay it 10 years, people are STILL gonna bitch about the new channels regardless, even if they are 10,000% better than the current channels.

Brian, no more delays. Make the change on the 30th, and then we'll see once and for all how many of the people who complained and whined actually leave youtube and those who stay and use it.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Because it's like everybody is pro-YouTube and LOVES these new channels right?

Oh wait, that's right. Over 60,000 of your users HATE the new channels.

Remember this, YouTube: If it ain't broken, don't fix it. We have been telling you this for 2 or 3 years already and you continue to ignore us. Corporate bastards. Listen to us for once! We are not going to put up with your dictator-like shit!

    ReplyDelete
  79. @ Quadunit404 Where did you get the number 60,000 from? Comments on the old YouTube blog, I'm assuming. I would love to see some hard numbers on this, because I'm betting the vast majority of YouTube users are merely shrugging their shoulders at this whole thing. It's not the end of the world, people. This constant comparison to communism, dictatorship, whatever-the-dramatic-catchword-of-the-day is, is ridiculous. YouTube is a BUSINESS.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Perhaps I really don't care about the beta channels anymore. But, YouTube has plenty of other problems that can only be the fault of: Google. Those *****es. I can't believe YouTube lost its individuality to those Google jerks. I'm gonna use Bing or Yahoo from now on, 'cause this is ridiculous. Google has bought enough websites already. It's time to boycott.

    ReplyDelete
  81. I will agree with you on that one. Google is a frustrating mess.

    ReplyDelete
  82. I know. I can't quite explain how, but I got locked out of most of my YouTube accounts because of it. It's a long story, but let's just say GooTube gave me NO support WHATSOEVER on reactivating my account, which sucks because my main account took so long to become as popular as it is today. :(

Those jerks. Brian states that "linking your YouTube account to your Google account might seem weird at first, but soon you'll see all the cool new features that requires you to have one."

Well, let me tell you something, Brian, most of us like YouTube just the way it is (or was). All the fancy new features in the world wouldn't make us like YouTube more than it was without Google fudging it up.

You're right, Google IS a pathetic mess. I haven't seen any new features from the whole "linking your YouTube account to your Google account" crap except frustration and anger. Seriously, you guys should reconsider having Google take over you, 'cause even the beta-lovers and haters can all agree on one thing:

Down with GOOTube! Up with YOUTube!

    ReplyDelete
  83. Agreed. And, don't listen to whoever said "keep the same date. their PERFECT!" Their not. And pushing it so it's not a RUSHED product is the smarter way to do it. I sure wouldn't be complaining if it wasn't bugged out. Example: Nintendo pushed back the date of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time a year (it was originally planned to meet Christmas season) because it was so glitchy and basically incomplete. One year later, and it's hailed (to this day) as the best video game ever made. Push the date back and make a BETTER channel... one where the video images show up bigger, one where you can make a video log... basically, DON'T TAKE AWAY ANYTHING FROM THE OLD CHANNELS! Only add stuff to make them better. And, before the date, give us the option to, when you click on a video, it takes us to another page (or not if thats the user's preference). I like to look at the channel comments and hate having to take an extra step to see what people have to say, and leave my own opinion. It's a small step to do this, but, let me tell you, it slows up MY system waiting for another tab to load. And, sometimes, it doesn't even load! Your consumers have spoken, Youtube. It's best that you listen.

  84. fine with me, as long as you guys keep up the great updates ^^

with regard to potential highlighting, I'd like to call out two beta channels

    one created by Wacom:
    http://www.youtube.com/wacom
[I'm not sure whether they completely finished it yet, but apart from a slight offset, it already is amazing in my opinion!]

    and - call me self-serving - mine:
    http://www.youtube.com/BirdKid8
[I made some slight colour corrections since you called me out in a previous post so even those, who are using a dark screen, should be able to read every bit (..I hope)]

anyway, can't wait to see more updates and more customer-based channel themes! =D

  85. @The Quintessential Glamrod: Yes, I am well aware of the fact that YouTube is a business, but most good businesses don't want to tick off their customers too much. In fact, that's the last thing they'd ever do. I agree that some users are overreacting a little to this, calling them communists and whatnot, but that's only because they're a little angry right now. Usually if there's lots of outbursts from customers, the business usually does a compromise to keep both sides of the argument happy.

I'm going to bring up Nintendo as an example, and no, it's not the same Ocarina of Time example Aaron gave. It's different. Recently, Nintendo announced that they made an update to one of their channels for the Wii and were going to make it free once again. (They used to have it so you had to pay $5 to get it.) They had thought about this when they planned to do it, so to keep users that may be angry for paying $5 to get it while others got it for free from leaving (Though that's a peculiar reason to leave), They decided to let those that paid download one old game of their choice for free. Even though there may still may be a mob out there that hated the fact that they didn't just get a refund of $5, that would probably still be a small minority. See, even if those people would be the only ones to leave, it's a LOT better than having a lot more leave due to ignoring those that paid $5.

Someone give me one good reason why it should be forced, because I'm not seeing it. If it's optional, then those that hate it and are complaining about it would be way fewer in numbers. Those that hate it won't have to use it and those that like it will continue to use it. Simple. If you don't like the person that has an old channel, then don't watch their stuff, that too is simple. No one ever forced any of you lovers to like it. You all CHOSE to like it. So why should new channel haters be forced to like it?

    ReplyDelete
  86. 100% agreed Reese. And, since we both brought up Nintendo examples, I figured I should bring up an example from another side of the field. I'm talking about SEGA. They rushed out a game for the XBob 360 and Playstation 3 called Sonic the Hedgehog (WAY different from the Genesis/Mega Drive and Game Gear/Master System one from yesteryear). Now, my FAVORITE video game series of all time/favorite character is Sonic the Hedgehog. Well, this game was rushed out and had nothing but bugs, sloppy animation, almost making the game unplayable. The game was, to but it frank, incomplete. The character were NOT playing like should, and it went so far as to say something in the manual that you couldn't do in the final product. Why? They rushed it out and made a bad product, which is exactly what you are doing with this product. I don't want a system that the developers know full well that there are still bugs in it that they are releasing to the public regardless. And, well, I LIKE the old system anyway. You claim your listening to us and our opinions, so why don't you actually ADDRESS THEM INSTEAD OF PLAYING IT OFF LIKE WE DON'T EXIST! And, you left out, that, while mentioning that a lot of partners use BETA, out of the top 25 most subscribed users, only 3 of them are using it. Please, listen to us, and make it optional.

    ReplyDelete
  87. @Aaron responding to your comment about Zelda Oot being pushed back due to bugs is a false statement. If you read up on it the game was planned to have far more depth and features. The game was meant to be much larger but Nintendo had the game on a time constraint. So basically the game was delayed to make the game a finished product acceptable for release buy cutting out many of its features. So before you make statements please read up on what you are going to refer to.

  88. Sometimes I need to switch to old channel just to fix certain bug in my channel's description. Or probably it was just me. Just hope that most of the bugs and glitches are fixed.

    ReplyDelete
  89. @MasterRaider, that is also true, but the reason I used that example was, despite all that, it is STILL considered the best video game of all time, and, that was also in part due to the limitations of the N64 and cartridge. But, thats beside the point. That's another debate for another day.

    ReplyDelete
  90. I love how people think this will ruin youtube - i admit it takes a long time on SOME computers when the ad hits the video and channel. But honestly it is a good change, also love how people think thousands will protest, when really maybe just over 200 will. ALSO the people saying they like there channel have a copyrighted image just repeated...

    ReplyDelete
  91. I asked this on the previous blog-post not realizing that there was a new one... so here it is again:

Anyone know if Google is indexing the Videos as they are played inside the new channel or are they only indexing the videos as they are played in the "public" YouTube space?

The URLs are different and I wonder if Google ignores the channel version... any confirmed data out there? It would effect my Video SEO efforts which is why I ask.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Oh, internet. Is it that big a fucking deal? 9_9

    ReplyDelete
  93. @videoleadsonline
all video featured on your channel is counted as viral/other(?) in the analytics untill they change it, i personally prefer it that wy, you see right away the number of channel views

    ReplyDelete
  94. it's actually sad how many losers are on YouTube.

Obviously the YouTube team knows they're going to get mostly negative feedback because they know that 80% of YouTube users are morons.

And everyone hates change. If our original channel design had been this new one and we were going to switch over to the old one now, everyone would be just as mad.

So yes, they're going to switch over no matter what anyone wants. And they don't care if a few idiots are dumb enough to leave because of it.

I love the new design a lot, I've been with the beta for months now, and I very much look forward to the global release!!

  98. I just did a test re. my last post/question... re. google and indexing different views of a video on YT.

It looks like Google does an index on a video if it is in the public YT space (i.e. not viewed in your channel), but they do NOT index it if it is in your channel.

To test this, put this public video link into a google searchbox: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lwmMP2-Ai0A
and it shows you a thumbnail of the video plus a normal result on a Search Engine Result Page (SERP)

But try putting this channnel view link (of the same video) into a google searchbox and it can't find it:
    http://www.youtube.com/user/MichaelHarperRealtor#play/all/uploads-all/0/lwmMP2-Ai0A

That shows me that Google is not yet indexing the videos as they are displayed inside the channel (a new feature for Channels 2.0)

Channels 1.0 seemed to only let you "feature" one video and play only the featured vid inside your channel, while Channels 2.0 let you feature one, but play any vid inside the channel.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Now that I think about it, I'd agree with everyone suggesting not to release this so soon. The channels are still buggy and incomplete. Pushing them out right now would probably cause an outrage amongst the community as they're still filled with potentially fatal bugs that can lead to site instability and that obviously is no good. That, and compatibility with many browsers is still quite poor. The only browser I seen that the new channels work right in is (believe it or not) Google Chrome.

I have been a member of YouTube since 2006, and I am not about to give up my old channel for something that still does not work well in most browsers yet and is still riddled with bugs and has the "Send Message" button right below the "Remove Friend" button (seriously, that should be changed before final release), as it took so long to get my channel to the way it is right now. I had even print screened it just to remember what the old channels look like. Many of us still would like to use our old channels, as they have features that the new channels still lack, and because my browser has tabs (as any good browser should have), allowing me to view my page and edit it at the same time, although not like the new channels.

So Brian, if you read this, then I would like you to know that it would be nice to have an option to use the new channels or not (like right now) and now downright delete the old channels after the forced site-wide migration is complete. That, and tell the rest of the YouTube Team to stop using the Google Web Optimizer to change around the site for no real reason (many of which are not well-received) and fix the many bugs on the site. That would be appreciated.

    ReplyDelete
  100. I liked the old channel's prominently displayed description... Can we have that somewhere in the new channel design? I haven't yet found something similar looking through the controls.

    ReplyDelete
  101. I don't know if anyone reading this has the power, but I would LOVE to have the old style back on my account:
    youtube.com/theyellowandlime

that would be fantastic. Thank you. The old style was perfect, I'm such a big fan.

    ReplyDelete
  102. I really like the new channel design, but please change "Hobbies" to "Interests". It's easier to list my likes under Interests. Hobbies is for like stamp collecting. One of my interests is samurai history and that doesn't look good under Hobbies. "Hobbies" looks lame and most well known sites use "Interests". Please change it back to "Interests and Hobbies" or just "Interests".

    ReplyDelete
  103. guys beta is hard to get use to i cant change to the old desing its better for the desing to be optional and the search bar gets anoying

    ReplyDelete
  104. @Jeremy: The majority of people that oppose this aren't mad that the new channel is here. They are mad that they have to be forced to use it. If it was optional, then not as many people would be upset. THAT is why everyone is upset. They are not mad that it is here.

Let's look at it this way: Let's say you've had an older car for about 10 years now, but the company comes to your house and tells you that you have to get a new car just because the old car is not up-to-date with newer models. However, you made a lot of changes to that car before that date they came, such as personalized seats and whatnot. However, when they take it from you and swap it with a newer model, it won't have all of the personalized changes you made to the previous one. You WOULD be a little upset that they took your own car away and swapped it without your say in it.

This is similar to what YouTube is doing in a way. They are taking away all of the customizations that other people have made and swapping it so they start out from scratch without their say so. Please understand why most people are upset.

    ReplyDelete
  105. reese, the difference is that you paid for the car, the company didnt give it to you for free

    ReplyDelete
  106. Hate the new channels, but I think this will be awesome. You know, there's gonna be a huge shitstorm, and i will lol at it.

    ReplyDelete
  107. For those people that say beta channel haters are afraid of change, YOU ARE WRONG! I don't like the beta channels but I do agree that some things on YouTube need to change. The flagging system is one thing that needs to change. YouTube really needs to make it so it cannot be easily abused. Someone could actually claim to be a major company and get vids taken down falsely. THAT is a HUGE ISSUE that YouTube should focus on fixing.

    ReplyDelete
  108. @Muzik 4 Machines: That doesn't mean YouTube isn't getting paid, either. Some users click on their ads, which in turn gives YouTube money. Without people clicking ads, you and YouTube would be nothing.

    ReplyDelete
  109. still a flawed analogy, since YOU paid nothing for it and you paid the car, ehoever is making money here is totally irrelevant

    ReplyDelete
  110. @Muzik 4 Machines: You forget about YouTube's system of AdSense it offers to its normal users. Those users pay YouTube DIRECTLY to have their videos pop up alongside search results, therefore having their content seen. There's also YouTube's brand new store that was barely implemented a few weeks ago. Another method of how YouTube is paid DIRECTLY! I actually do my research before I speak, unlike you.

    ReplyDelete
  111. but still the logic is flawed as pointed muzik just above you, you don't PAY for your channel, people to feature a VIDEO, not a channel, and they choose to do so, the point is, they GIVE you webspace for free, they have nothing in the TOS that say they can't change or terminate the service,

you me be doing "research", it still just seem you think they OWE you something when actually you should PAY them for the service they offer, so they are free to do whatever they want with the servers they paid with the money they earned from the site, not from the users(unless the user CHOOSES to pay them to be featured/to own content(like any other store, when youtube sells one of my video, most of the money goes to me, not them, they charge a processing fee and give me the rest)

    ReplyDelete
  112. @Roch: Another flaw there, too. If YouTube ticks off the users too much, then they leave and find a different website, therefore YouTube actually loses money if they do what they feel is right without asking the user for their thoughts on it. Or perhaps I might remind you of bandwidth waster Muzik4machines over here that decided to say, "i'm a partner, i'm allowed to 20 GB, but it's another story" He, in turn, is hurting YouTube in a way. Like I said before, most companies try to keep as many customers on their site as possible. MySpace is free, but they still allow their profile 2.0 layout to be optional why? Because if they were to force it, a good amount of people would leave. That's the name of a GOOD business. The site's slogan is "Broadcast Yourself" not "Broadcast what the staff wants" so if they don't keep true to their slogan, then the site soon becomes dead.

    ReplyDelete
  113. a earlier comment made me remember.

the new stuff cuts video responses. having one of the most responded videos of all time (yes, across all categories), this saddens me (by the way, the honers system needs work, half the time my video dosent show in the all time honers).

also, i and users like me play games with video responses. these games being one of the primary reasons i upload here.

i guess when the change happens i'm going to go to useiong MSN's skydrive and direct downloads. hope you guys enjoy losing ad revenue to microsoft.

    ReplyDelete
  114. hey youtube! GJ with the new profiles.
something weird though, is that when i try to click on my username in the corner, a stupid drop down menu ALWAYS covers it up...and i am forced to click on accounts, then click on my username (which is iomoo, in case anyone wants to go see my videos :3)
    but yeah. its annoying >_<

  123. I think because it´s still a BETA VERSION, we (like me,old channel) like more the the older version, cause have more interactive think´s, even the new Beta it´s great, but still it´s Beta, and it have to become "Alpha" Version, before you try this Beta version, in my opinion , for me i like the old school, even with minor problems, but one think it´s for sure, we sre more interactive. try to have a better solution, with both channels, cause like me i see many people don´t upgrade to new version, cause it´s still Beta, and have "yet" many subjects, which people don´t like, so my advice read all this comments and, think for youself, at least try the better version "the Alpha version" of youtube, i hope with newer version all this problems will be solved, till then i hope you don´t upgrade my channel, even with all problems, and old school he are, with hope in a better future to YOUTUBE.

    ReplyDelete
  134. Since there is absolutely no way out of the beta at this point, would you please at least make it as less inferior to the old channels as much as possible?

For example, these items in particular need to be sorted out ASAP:

    * Videos viewed on the channel are always at a fixed size/resolution, meaning HD videos will appear the same size/resolution as regular videos. Viewers won't be able to see the full glory of HD if they don't open a new window.
    * No more Most Discussed sorting.
    * You can no longer be able to see the video's length in their thumbnails.
    * You can no longer see how many total videos the person has.
    * Scrolling through videos takes forever to find a particular videos, especially if the person has lots of them. The video box either needs to be a lot bigger, or be separated into pages like the old channels.
    * Related Videos not being shown while playing a video on the channel. As you know, related videos are HIGHLY important for people to watch other videos and learn about other people's channels.
    * Profile info being below the video area when it should be be on the very top or at least to the side. You can't even move it up at the very top.
    * BUGS: bg not being updated instantly when uploaded, channel settings not being saved, etc.

    ReplyDelete
  135. I have TWO requests!!

The first is to add a own customized birthdate because sometimes there are some people which didn't use their real Date (me for example because I'm already on youtube since three years I was young and silly xP)

The other and more important thing:

Please add a funktion to show "random friends", "random subscribers" and such...
...would be nice to not having always the same profiles in your Profile! Gets boring and looks like nothing changed - maybe also the funktion "latest friends" and such??

hope you will work on that xD
    thx^^

  136. I could care less about the beta channels right now, but Reese is right. YouTube SHOULD ask for the popular opinion about whatever they decide to implement on us. And I mean from the hundreds of thousands of users on YouTube, not just the partners.

P.S. tb, you have a serious attitude issue. You shouldn't talk back at people like that. They're just giving suggestions they think would improve the beta channels, that's all.

    ReplyDelete
  137. @Nano: The users are the people that keep YouTube alive. We made it famous in the first place and that is where their money comes from. Since we contributed to this site being up, we should have our rights to make our experience better.

And to those people that hate looking at old channels, why don't you just leave that person's channel? Why watch their stuff if they bother you just because they have an old channel?

For all of those that have to go and tell beta haters that they absolutely HAVE to enjoy it, please watch this video and see how wrong that logic is:

    ReplyDelete
  139. Oh, really? Am I the one who curses at every suggestion or opinion that does not please me? Am I the one who insults people with a different opinion, tells them to get out, and expect that they actually listen to me? I didn't think so. So shut up, and quit making stupid and egoistic comments that CLEARLY have no thought put into them. You also focus on the part of the person's comment that aggravates you most and target THAT instead of the point the commenter is REALLY trying to make, which I find quite moronic.

Of course, you'll probably come up with another comeback to my comment rather than thinking about what you're actually doing to those with a different opinion.

P.S. Don't even bother replying to this comment if you're gonna make one that insults or segregates me in anyway, because while some of us here are actually putting thought into the comments we post, you say things like:

"hey japan, the one with the attitude problem here is you, lolercoaster you are"

We are not upset because the new channels are here and existing, we're upset because we don't wanna be FORCED TO USE THEM! Either knock it off with this bullcrap, or give YouTube back to it's RIGHTFUL owners so they can return YouTube back to the way it was in it's early days. Looking at the list of Most Subscribed partners, only 3 of the partners on page 1 are using the new design (including Fred, YT's first user to reach 1 million subscribers). Wouldn't this give YT an idea (without all the outbursts from a lot of people) that perhaps they should reconsider forcing everyone to switch to the new design?

Like I said before take your time to realise the best of both worlds, wouldn't that be wise?

    ReplyDelete
  155. No, I am sorry. The 'beta-channels' are one big mess. You'll never fix all the 'bugs'.

Brian what more can I say? THEY DO NOT WORK!ciao!

    ReplyDelete
  156. "what's the point, they are individuals like you and me, they are not THE LAW or anything, just regular folks"

The point is that these people are experts at getting a lot of subscribers and video views. If people like nigahiga, Fred, and smosh prefer the old channel design, there's probably a very good reason for it! They choose the old design because it makes people more likely to watch their videos (and more video views = more ad revenue for Youtube).

Even if Youtube doesn't have any sort of obligation to these people, it's to their own advantage to try to learn from these people.

  157. @tb: That was the dumbest reply you have come up with yet. I hope someone imitates you like they are to M4M, because you guys are telling the people who oppose the migration. You haven't given me a SINGLE reason for assuming that I'm conceived. You're coming up with such dumb replies that make NO sense whatsoever, since you're basically ignoring the point I'm trying to make and are covering it up with something else.

Fine, continue completely ignoring my comments and posting dumb replies to save your butt and not make you look like an even bigger ego than you are. Well, let me give you a little heads up on the point of this comment: YOUR REPLIES TO ME AND OTHER BETA-HATERS MAKE NO SENSE WHATSOEVER. YOU'RE JUST ACCUSING ME OF HING FOR NO REASON AND GIVING THE DUMBEST POSSIBLE DETAILS YOU COULD POST.

P.S. Don't reply to this comment, I'm serious this time.

  158. @japanlover Could you please rephrase this, because I am not getting what you're trying to say:

"I hope someone imitates you like they are to M4M, because you guys are telling the people who oppose the migration. You haven't given me a SINGLE reason for assuming that I'm conceived."

Ironically, it's in a post about nonsensical posts. :-P

  159. What I'm saying is that tb is not giving me a smart reason, or at least one that makes sense, about what he's saying. Actually, he isn't giving me ANY reasons.

But, there's a bigger problem on YouTube at the time, and I bet you can figure it out. And no, it's not mainly about the beta channels.

  160. Please bring back the pagination for browsing videos! For people like me with 800+ videos on my channel, putting them all on one page makes it really hard to browse. The scroll bar is difficult to use because it goes through the videos too quickly. I also have no reference points to tell me where I am within my huge collection of videos, so it's easy to lose my place. If I click to watch a video and then click back, it brings me back to the top so I need to find my place again.

There really isn't any advantage to having it all on one page because you still need to wait for the next set of videos to load each time you scroll down.

Maybe 20 per page is too few, but I think something like 50 per page would be good.

  161. HELP!
I am making (what I hope to be) a very accurate template to help my clients use the new channel design, but I've run into what may be a bug:
I thought I had the height of the design locked in, but when I moved the Comments module over to the Left side (bottom), it appears that I can add lots of comments and the page height keeps adjusting down (it makes it go so big/tall that it appears to have no end) in height.

This makes it hard to show where the bottom of the design ends, if it just keeps growing. I didn't notice that continual resize issue when the comment module was on the Right side.

I thought the size was going to be no larger than 1800 pixels (25") tall for the channel design.

All is fine if you don't upload a background image, but that is what my template is going to help people work with: background images.

The comments module (unlike some of the others) does not seem to let you limit the number of rows it will display.

Any ideas out there on what's up? Is this a bug?

    ReplyDelete
  162. the width is fixed
the height of anything below the video player module is variable (from a classified document)
they say never to assume any height for anything below the player as it will change with honnors, new comments, etc

  163. @M4M...Thanks, I was afraid of that being the answer.

Any ideas on the terminology: Wrapper?

I'm pulling together some training vids on how to use the new design and am stumped. In the Advanced Options the choices on the Left side are called General and many use the word Wrapper. Wrapper items appear to be non-user added structural things. Most of the wrapper items change stuff in the top portion of the channel, but the Transparency of the wrapper effects the entire design-top and bottom.

The Right side's options (named Color Palettes) seem to be adjustments to the user-added items and seem only to be the insides of the modules while the wrapper can go outside.

Any tips on how to explain the terminology used: Wrapper, Wrapper text, Background color (on the left) vs. Background color (on the right)?

  164. Well, I see you're going to ignore everyone that wants to keep their old channels, no matter how they how many things they point out that are better about them.
I'll just add these two things:
You know if you hit the back button in the browser, at least in my IE, on a new channel page, it doesn't work, you have to click on it two or tree times?
Another thing is that when you switch to grid view of the videos on a channel page, the audio of the auto-played or started
featured video keep right on going, had you guys noticed that?

    ReplyDelete
  165. I agree with all beta haters. i hate beta.

My main suggestion is make an option where it can look somewhat like the old channel.

Favorites grid, videos grid, and featured video on the same page when viewing a channel WOULD BE nice.

Also editing information is hard because you editing in a small box, it should be extended when you edit your info in an area.

  166. @chris, its normal behavior and is prefered by most users
@videoleads online, check http://www.youtube.com/user/beta2colortest i just created this to save words here lol
    background right is red
    wrapper is green
wrapper text is turquoise and links are blue
    background right is yellow
    title text is white
link is purple and text is black

  167. FEATURE REQUEST: Autoplay for Playlists in the new channel design. Or a way to pop a playlist out of the new channel design in order to get to the playlist by itself in order to click the "play all videos" button. I know you want to leave the autoplay option for partners for autoplaying *uploaded* videos in the new channel design. But the autoplay for playlists is essential. In the new channel design, when you click a playlist, you have to click on each video to play each video in the playlist. Playlists should play automatically. If this can't be done in the new channel design for non-partners, then at least provide an alternative easy way to let the user click the playlist to get the playlist out of the new channel design to get the regular playlist-only list of videos-on-the-playlist where you have that button for "play all videos". Otherwise, I have to use SEARCH to find my playlists and then get to my playlists that way to get to the autoplay "Play All Videos" button for the playlists. It's just not as much fun for running the playlist if it becomes too difficult to get to that autoplay function. The cynical part of me says that youtube really wants to hide the playlist autoplay function. But I think you just aren't thinking that way and you probably missed this because, well, you put playlists on a lower priority level. *SIGH*

  168. @M4M Thanks for the color key... I figured out those items (which option effects which part), what I'm stumped on is the logic or the terminology used. As a trainer I try to give the logic behind how it works and that is where I'm having problems. Especially with consistency of terminology. i.e. why does the link color not effect the color of the featured video?

Or trying to explain why some options are on the left side vs. right, how to understand why the "background color" on the left is different than the "background color" on the right, etc.

BTW your first line which says "background right is red" should probably read "background LEFT is red".

    Thanks for the effort though...

  169. The new channel does NOT appear to have linkability to show the playlists. Is that hiding somewhere in the depths?

    ReplyDelete
  170. I've tried the new channels and I hate them - they're glitchy and hard to navigate.

You are shooting yourselves in the foot by trying to fix something that is not broken. Leave to old channels alone.

Release BETA, but please give us an option to keep the old channels.

    ReplyDelete
  171. Could you please add an option to remove themes as well as more customization features? That would make the new channel designs perfect. ^_^

BTW, I think the Profile column and the one above that contains the username, avatar and links for subscription and friend requests should be merged, IMO.

Overall, keep the good work comin'! ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  172. I don't see why everything has to be in 1 page, if you ask me the old way where all videos and tings like that were in its own separate page works a lot better. The new design is just slower. Especially for anyone that has over a few hundred videos, favorites, etc.

    ReplyDelete
  173. @VLO oups, my bad, i think the left things affect the whole page and the right things are modules only, hence the separation

    ReplyDelete
  174. You have got to be kidding me. Most of the feedback you all have received on these Beta Channels have been negative because they're plain out bad. Pull this one and half of the community will leave and it just comes to show you all don't listen to your community anymore. Keep on rolling out the bad features and making things a lot worse GoogleTube.

    ReplyDelete
  175. Yeah.... this is great and all - but WHAT ABOUT SUBSCRIBING TO PLAYLISTS!?

Make all the changes you want... but please do not entirely remove a function from the website.

there's only one problem, I can't see one of my videos on the channel - not even in grid view. It's my first video. I can still watch it by clicking Account > My Videos though.

  180. Brian,

Although I feel that more features should be addded to the new channel, the site looks mostly finished.
Two important features seems missing though:
1.) Video duration overlay on the video thumbnails
2.) Ability to delete created themes.

In one of the past updates, you mentioned that you guys are working on it. Are you guys just waiting to release these two features on launch date (September 30)?

    ReplyDelete
  181. Brian,

You said that the new channel will continue to change based on our feedback.
After the launch date, this blog will no longer be a YouTube Channels 2.0 beta blog. You should create a blog with a new title for us to continue to provide suggestions.

    ReplyDelete
  182. Brian,

On the old channel, we were able to click a button/link and it would take us to the all comments page for a particular video. Howevever, with the new channel, there is no option for that. In the new channel, when you click on "See all comments and video responses", it takes us to the watch page first and not to the all comments page. I would like to be able to go to the all comments page directly from the channel instead of having to go to the watch page first.

    ReplyDelete
  183. It would be nice if we could open links in a new tab. Forcing us to have only one page open makes it extremely difficult and time-consuming to navigate channels. Right now the videos are the only thing I can open in a new tab, but none of the other links work (uploads, playlists, grid view, etc).

Shift+click also doesn't work (shift+click is supposed to open a link in a new tab).

    ReplyDelete
  184. Brian, please add this "MOST DISCUSSED" feature, so that I can arrange videos according to the number of comments. New channels should not omit "MOST DISCUSSED".

  188. Hello Brian,
I've got a few troubles over here :
    - When I post a comment on some video, it doubles the notification in the recent activity box and you can't remove the notification (look at my channel : youtube.com/renjida19)
    - In some groups, you have threads with tons of pages and you have to go through page 1, page 2, etc... in order reach the last one. Can't you put a "Last page" link and also a box where we could type the page we want to go to

    Thank you for your comprehension.

    ReplyDelete
  189. Edit : The first problem solved by itself.

    ReplyDelete
  190. Brian, can you fix the groups? Right now it's impossible to edit or moderate groups.

  191. I've been reading through most of the comments, and from what I notice, many dislike the new layout (which I think is a little too crammed).

I assume YouTube wishes to move all channels from the old, static design to the new, dynamic, JavaScript-rich layout and ensure all channels are similar to prevent any confusion or conflict.

What I suggest is that YouTube develops a seperate layout, similar to 2.0 in the sense that it is dynamic and rich, but picks up design cues from the old channel layout.

So it can be like Channel Info on the left side. Then on the right side, the player box be at the top, then the list of videos box below it, in a seperate box (but clicking on the video still plays it through the player box at the top). Then below that is the favourites box, and so on.

This would keep most of the haters happy. (I do share some of their thoughts, though.)

All in all great work on the layout, especially in fixing the IE6 issue. It used to look terrible on IE6, with the messed up boxes and all.

  193. Youtube... LISTEN TO YOUR ENTIRE USER COMMUNITY, NOT JUST 1/4 OF IT!!! WE HATE BETA CHANNELS!!!

    ReplyDelete
  194. LOL @ Alex
the less than 1/4 of the community are the beta haters/spammers, not the reverse, funny how maths are not teached anymore

  195. I have a question for you Youtube staffers!

Why do you force the BETA on existing channels? Tell us...

Listen to the masses. They DON'T WANT BETA!!!

    ReplyDelete
  196. you should do something about the backgrounds, they should be allowed in a bigger size! even better, any size! everytime i make a background i have to shrink it, it becomes tiny it can be my icon! please do something about that.
